After years of speculation and a lengthy break between group releases, The Internet have officially announced that a new album is on the horizon. During a recent appearance on the New York Times Popcast, members Syd, Steve Lacy, and Matt Martians revealed that the band's fifth studio album is expected to arrive in early 2027.
The upcoming project will be the group's first full-length release since Hive Mind, which debuted in 2018. Although nearly a decade will separate the two albums, the band shared that work on the record has been ongoing for several years.
Matt Martians explained that the group has been developing the album on and off for the past four to five years, with the COVID-19 pandemic significantly slowing the creative process and extending the recording timeline.
Instead of following a strict studio schedule, The Internet continued their long-standing approach of balancing individual careers with collaborative sessions. Each member focused on solo projects before reuniting whenever the timing and inspiration aligned, allowing the album to evolve naturally over time.
