Kolme James: The Artist Who Has Been Building From Every Angle and Is Finally Stepping to the Front

Some artists start at the front of the room. Kolme James started in the back, in his parents' basement at 14 years old, building something that would take years to fully take shape. What happened between that basement and where he stands today is a story about patience, purpose and a man who understood the craft deeply enough to help legends before ever putting his own name on the marquee.

He is pronounced "Call Me James." And once you hear what he has been building, you will not forget the name.

Born in Columbus, Georgia, shaped by military life in El Paso, Texas and now based in Phoenix, Arizona, Kolme James carries every city he has lived in with him. Each place added something. Each experience gave him more to write about. And he has never stopped writing.

From the basement to the industry

At 14 he was rapping in his parents' basement. From there he moved into DJing, then into production, spending years behind the scenes helping other artists bring their visions to life. That is not a detour. That is an education that most artists never get.

As a producer he worked with G4 Boyz, Killa Kyleon and King Magnetic. He also had the opportunity to work alongside DJ L.E.S., the legendary producer best known for his work with Nas. That level of proximity to real industry experience taught him things that cannot be learned in a classroom. Professionalism. Relationships. The business behind the music.

After years of helping others tell their stories, the time came to tell his own. Kolme James stepped forward as an artist and brought everything he had learned with him.

Music that says what words cannot

The music Kolme James makes is not built around what is trending. It is built around what is true.

Mental health. Relationships. Accountability. Healing. Personal growth. These are the conversations he wants his music to have, the ones that do not always get said out loud but need to be heard. He found music early in life because it gave him a place to say everything he was holding inside. That origin has never left his approach to creating.

"If somebody hears one of my records and feels understood, then I did what I came to do," he says.

That is a simple mission statement but it is also a profound one. In a landscape where a lot of music is designed to entertain for a moment and disappear, Kolme James is making records built to stay with people. To find them in the moments when they need to feel less alone.

"Music gave me a voice when I couldn't find the words. If my story helps even one person realize they aren't alone, then every song I've written has done its job."

What keeps him moving

Kolme James does not chase trends. He does not try to sound like whoever is hot at the moment. His motivation comes from the same place his music does. Real life.

Every setback gives him something to write about. Every lesson adds a layer to who he is as an artist. Every win reminds him that the work is worth it. Numbers are not the goal. Connection is. And he trusts that if the music genuinely connects with people, everything else will follow naturally.

That kind of patience and clarity of purpose is rare. It is also exactly what produces music that lasts.

ILC Music, the radio and everything he is building

Kolme James is not just an artist. He is an operator building an entire ecosystem around his music and his brand.

He is the head of ILC Music, the music division of Imperial Legacy Clothing. The goal is bigger than releasing songs. It is about creating real opportunities for independent artists and building something that serves the community around him, not just his own career.

He is also a proud presence on KYBN Radio 98.10 FM, and one of the shows closest to his heart is Just Chat Wit Bri, hosted by his mother Sabrina "BRIZEE" Carnes. He provides the voice intros for her show and being able to support her platform while building his own is something that goes beyond music. It is family. It is legacy. It is exactly what Imperial Legacy Clothing and ILC Music were built around. Alongside Just Chat Wit Bri he also provides voice intros for The Indy HookUp with Heston Cleveland and Think About It Talk About It with Dr. Aaron Ramsey, while his own music stays in regular rotation across the station.

That kind of presence on radio reflects an artist who understands that building a career in music is about more than dropping songs and waiting. It is about showing up for the people who showed up for you first.

The 4LOSI series and what is coming

Right now Kolme James is finishing his 4LOSI EP and mixtape series, a body of work that represents the most focused and complete version of his artistic vision to date. Everything he has learned as a producer, a DJ, a writer and a storyteller is going into this series and the result is music that reflects a full life lived across multiple cities, multiple roles and multiple chapters of real growth.

This is not a debut from someone just finding their voice. This is an arrival from someone who has been developing that voice for over a decade and finally has the platform and the purpose to let it be heard on his own terms.

The story he came to tell

Kolme James started in a basement. He built his way through DJing and production. He worked alongside legends. He grew up in a military family, with his father's service shaping the discipline and resilience that runs through everything he does. He built a clothing brand with a music division attached to it. He became a radio voice. He found a cousin to create with. And through all of it he kept writing, kept creating and kept building toward the moment where his own story could take center stage.

That moment is now. The 4LOSI series is coming. The music is in rotation. The brand is growing. And Kolme James is doing exactly what the name says.

Call him James. He has earned it.
