Unkkle Drew: The Artist Who Started Rapping for Get Back and Has Been Delivering Ever Since

Some artists start making music because they love it. Unkkle Drew started making music because someone came for him.

Back in 2011 a friend by the name of Velmoe dropped a freestyle video in Brevoort Projects dissing him directly. At the time Unkkle Drew did not know how to rap. But that diss video lit something in him that has never gone out. He walked into a studio on January 7th 2012, his birthday, looking for get back. And from that moment forward it has been up ever since.

That origin story says everything about who Unkkle Drew is as an artist. He does not do things halfway. He does not fold under pressure. He responds. And the response has been a career built on soulful bars, street credibility and a standard he holds himself to every single time a hip-hop legend drops something and his fans come looking for him to answer.

The standard he lives by

What keeps Unkkle Drew motivated is not clout or streams. It is expectation.

He knows that when a hip-hop legend drops a banger for the streets his fans are going to come to him expecting a fire sixteen in response. That weight of expectation is not a burden to him. It is fuel. Living up to what his audience knows he is capable of is what keeps him in the booth, keeps him sharp and keeps him evolving as an artist.

That kind of accountability to a fan base is rare and it speaks to the relationship he has built with the people who rock with him. They know what he brings. And he refuses to let them down.

UNKK: Ten songs, all gems, dropping November 6th

On November 6th Unkkle Drew is dropping "UNKK," a 10 song EP that he describes as very soulful and full of gems he is giving away to the listeners. That is not a hype description. That is an artist who has been sitting on something real and is finally ready to let it out.

The project has one feature and it means everything to him. YBC Belly gets the shoutout and the love because it was YBC Belly who gave Unkkle Drew the motivation to jump back in the booth and keep going. Free him. That loyalty and that acknowledgment on the project speaks to who Unkkle Drew is as a person beyond the music.

Ten songs. Soulful energy. Bars built for the streets. November 6th on all streaming platforms.

"I started my career on my birthday looking for get back. It has been up ever since."

On collaborations and keeping it real

Unkkle Drew is straightforward about where he stands on collaborations. It is not that he does not want them. It is that he refuses to compromise his standards to get them.

He has noticed that a lot of successful rappers are too scared to give another rapper just as good as them the opportunity. And beyond that he simply does not respect the real character of a lot of artists in the game right now. He would rather build on his own terms than attach his name to something that does not align with who he is.

That honesty is refreshing in a space where most artists say all the right things publicly while thinking something completely different privately. Unkkle Drew says exactly what he means and means exactly what he says.
