Baby Keem is aiming high and isn't shy about his confidence when it comes to his place in rap.
After stepping away from the spotlight for several years, Keem returned earlier this year with Ca$ino. The project followed the success of The Melodic Blue, which helped establish him as one of rap's most promising young stars in 2021. His recent comeback has reinforced the idea that he's determined to remain a major force in the genre for years to come.
As discussions continue about the future of hip-hop and who might eventually take over from the genre's established leaders, Keem has made it clear that he doesn't see himself as part of an up-and-coming generation waiting for its turn. The current "Big Three"—Drake, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar—still dominate much of the conversation around rap's elite artists.
During an interview with Elsie not Elise, Keem was asked about being included in Spotify's Hip-Hop's Next Leaders campaign, which highlights emerging talent in the genre. Rather than embracing the label of a rising star, Keem expressed a much bolder outlook.
According to the rapper, he doesn't view himself as merely one of the next generation's leaders. Instead, he believes his talent and artistry already place him above the artists commonly considered hip-hop's top three figures. The statement reflects Keem's competitive mindset and his determination to be recognized among rap's elite rather than as a future contender.
