Former State Property rapper Oschino recently shared his perspective on the early days of Kanye West's career, arguing that Dame Dash deserves more recognition for helping launch the superstar rapper and producer than Jay-Z.
During a recent interview, Oschino recalled how Dame Dash strongly believed in Kanye's potential at a time when many people within Roc-A-Fella were focused on his production skills rather than his ambitions as a rapper. According to Oschino, Dash actively promoted Kanye's talent, encouraged others to listen to him rap, and gave him opportunities when few others saw his vision.
Oschino claimed that Jay-Z was initially skeptical about Kanye's fit as an artist, partly because his style and appearance stood out from the image that defined Roc-A-Fella at the time. While many members of the label came from street-oriented backgrounds and embraced a particular fashion culture, Kanye's preppy clothing and unique personality made him seem different from the rest of the roster.
Despite those differences, Oschino said Kanye's talent was impossible to ignore. He credited Dame Dash with recognizing that potential early and helping pave the way for Kanye's eventual success as both a rapper and producer.
