Andre 3000 Expands '7 Piano Sketches' Universe With New Short Film

Andre 3000 continues to explore new creative territory with the release of a short film inspired by his instrumental project, 7 Piano Sketches. The visual companion to the EP is now available exclusively on MUBI and offers a surreal interpretation of the music and ideas behind the project.

Co-written by Andre 3000 and filmmaker Graham Mason, who also directed the film, the story follows the legendary artist as he carries a piano on his back while making his way to work. Along the journey, he keeps a notebook filled with ideas and encounters a series of unusual characters whose traits and personalities connect to the instrument he carries.

The film blends whimsical imagery with deeper themes, examining creativity, human relationships, and the passage of time. Its dreamlike atmosphere mirrors the experimental spirit of 7 Piano Sketches, which was released in 2025 as a collection of instrumental compositions.

Andre 3000 has previously spoken about how the project represented a sense of artistic freedom for him. Originally, he considered giving the album a playful title that acknowledged fans' continued hopes for a new rap album. Instead, 7 Piano Sketches became another example of his willingness to follow his creativity in unexpected directions, embracing music without lyrics while remaining true to his artistic vision.
