While the past year has brought plenty of success for A$AP Rocky, the rapper recently revealed that a frightening incident involving his family has had a lasting emotional impact.
Following his acquittal in a widely publicized felony assault case, Rocky has continued to grow his business ventures while maintaining one of entertainment’s most high-profile relationships with Rihanna. Despite those accomplishments, he admitted that a shooting incident at their home earlier this year significantly affected his sense of security.
During a recent interview with VIBE, Rocky reflected on the March incident in which a woman allegedly fired multiple shots at the residence he shares with Rihanna. According to reports, the couple and their children were inside the home at the time. Although neither Rocky nor Rihanna has publicly discussed the event in great detail, the rapper offered insight into how deeply it affected him.
The conversation also touched on Rocky’s connection to New York City, a place he described as representing freedom, energy, and the ability to move through life without fear. That sense of freedom, he explained, was shaken by the shooting.
“It was messed up,” Rocky said. “Someone attempted to harm me and my family. It took away a lot of the peace and happiness that comes with simply being able to live freely. I don’t want to lose my peace or my joy.”
Authorities later identified the suspect as Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, who has been accused of firing multiple rounds from an AR-15-style rifle at the property. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident. Ortiz has pleaded not guilty to several felony charges, including attempted murder, and is currently awaiting trial.
Although Rocky has continued to focus on his career and family, his comments underscore the emotional toll that such a traumatic event can have, even long after the immediate danger has passed.
